Instructor Bio's
Rachel Sylvester has practiced dance since she was 3 and fell in love with yoga 10 years ago. Practicing Bikram for 5 years she discovered her love for a more fluid and dance-like form of yoga- Vinyasa Flow. After her favorite teacher left town, she began teaching yoga to encourage the small group to continue which lead to attaining her Yoga Certification through the Yoga Alliance. The studio began a slow run in a small town unexposed to yoga. Now 5 years have passed and Rachel has a strong following of beginners, which she absolutely adores, to the more advanced practitioners. Rachel truly loves her time sharing the wealth of being and feeling alive. Every body is not like everybody, so while paying close attention to physiology and anatomy; each body may look differently in each asana. Rachel believes in tapping into one’s own unique form and developing an asana practice from there with anatomy in mind. The questions she leads you in a class can revolve around: How open can you be in asserting great effort while perhaps having an even greater ease in an asana or meditation? Or beyond our body, how much effort can you have in attaining your desired outcomes and yet being unattached, in other words, who cares anyhow? Joining a class with Rachel will be one of compassion with your body and an opportunity to step out of the norm mentally. Emotionally be available for change, any change, just being able to experience your heart can be a moment of play and growth.
Sunshine Deal was blessed to grow up with yoga. Since her Mom began practicing at the age of 17 Sunshine can't remember a time when the practice of yoga was not in her consciousness. She started her personal yoga journey as a teenager when she began to explore not just asana but meditation as well. In 2004 Sunshine was involved in a bicycle accident that left her in need of surgery and not wanting live with the physical and emotional pain for the rest of her life she dedicated herself strongly to her practice in order to heal and heal she did. It was this that inspired her to complete a yoga teacher training in July of 2007 at the Asheville Yoga Center with Stephanie Keach. She spent the following year traveling and training in India, including 2 of months Ashtanga in Mysore with Ajay Kumar of Sthalam8 Yoga Shala and 5 months at the Yoga Niketan ashram in Rishikesh. A class with Sunshine will focus strongly on good alignment blended with compassion and joy for who you are. "We each bring something different to our mats and it is on our mats that we learn lessons that help us to live more free and from the heart. Yoga has the power to help you to be present in the moment without worrying about the past or future because all we truly have is right now.”

Q&A
Q: What is Yoga?
A: Originating in India, yoga is a psycho-physical discipline with roots going back about 5,000 years. Today, most yoga practices in the West focuses on the physical postures called "asanas," breathing exercises called "pranayama," and meditation. However, there's more to it than that, and the deeper you go the richer and more diverse the tradition becomes. The word "yoga" means union. Linguistically, it is related to the Old English "yoke." Traditionally, the goal of yoga is union with the Absolute, known as Brahman, or with Atman, the true self. These days the focus is often on the more down-to-earth benefits of yoga, including improved physical fitness, mental clarity, greater self-understanding, stress control and general well-being. Spirituality however, is a strong underlying theme to most practices. The beauty of yoga is in its versatility, allowing practitioners to focus on the physical, psychological or spiritual, or a combination of all three.
Q: What do I bring/wear to yoga?
A: Personal sticky mats are available for purchase, bring your own, or you are invited to borrow a yoga matat your own risk. If you commit to yoga, we recommend purchasing your own mat for hygienic reasons. Wear Comfortable, fitted clothing and no shoes or socks are required. Yoga is best practiced with an empty stomach and bladder. Feel free to bring water to class, however, it is best to drink it afterwards.
Q: How shall I prepare for a yoga class?
A: In consideration of students with fragrance sensitivities, please refrain from wearing perfume. Please also come to the studio having washed after previous athletic activities that would cause strong body odors. We also recommend washing yoga mats often to prevent odors coming from the mats. Come with an open mind to new possibilities. Please let your instructor know of any injuries or major body issues you have or have had.
Q: What are some benefits of yoga?
A: People have received many benefits from yoga such as: Improved Flexibility, Strength and balance, Reduced stress, Increased relaxation, Improved sleep, Relief from Neck, Joint and Back pain
Students are encouraged to take what they learn in class with them into their daily lives. Yoga offers the blessings of learning to live calmly with and open mind and forgiving self. Please join us in class and feel free to call and ask what class is appropriate for you.
Q:Is yoga a religion?A: Yoga is Hindu in origin but ecumenical in nature. It is not a religion; it is a philosophy clearly premised in moral and spiritual principles. Whether you do yoga for physical, emotional, or spiritual reasons, yoga has a transformative effect on your overall health and vitality, your awareness of self and others, and your capacity for integrity and compassion
Q: Are there any other teachings you promote?
A: We promote peace in each individual. We believe peace begins within each of us, by awareness of our connection to all other beings in the sharing of life. So we promote Green Living, embracing Fair Trade practices, Earth-friendly Sustainability and conscious consumerism for the benefits of all people, wildlife and our planet.
Q: What are the class levels?
A: Gentle Yoga is a great starting point for beginners or students with limitations. Level 1 Yoga can also be a starting class for students who are already in good health. Level 2 Yoga is designed for yoga students who have a large range of motions in their bodies and are bringing their practice to a new level. Call us if you will like some assistance in discovering your first class with us.
Q: What type of yoga do you teach?A: At BMe Yoga, we teach a form of Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa or some call it Flow Yoga. Hatha Yoga is a forceful path. This branch of yoga requires the aspirant to devote time to physical processes, such as pranayama (breath and energy exercises), and asanas (physical exercises). Hatha yoga attempts to purify the nervous system and strengthen the body to such a degree that the hatha yogi attains a state of freedom from heat or cold, pain and pleasure, even hunger and thirst. Other forms of Hatha Yoga are Inyengar, Viniyoga, Ashtanga, Kripalu, Integral, Sivananda, Ananda, Bikram, Kundalini, Anusara, Tri Yoga, White Lotus, Jivamukti, and Ishta.
The biggest myth of yoga...you must be flexible to come to class!
We welcome all bodies and everybody.
